Local restaurant named top 15 roadside restaurants in the South

JACKSON, Tenn. — Southern Living Magazine has named B.E. Scott’s BBQ in Lexington as one of the top 15 roadside restaurants in the South.

“Honestly to be named top 15 in Tennessee roadside restaurants, it sort of humbles me because there’s so many places to eat and to be recognized by The Southern Living you know, brings me down to earth cause I’ve eaten a lot of great food and for Southern Living to mention us, we’re blessed,” said Zach Parker, owner of B.E. Scott’s BBQ.

The BBQ place has been in business since 1962 and is owned by Zach and Taneal Parker.

The family-run restaurant is unique for its whole hog, hickory smoked BBQ.

“It’s a lost art. A lot of people don’t look at it like that, but since it is the whole animal it’s tough and the training for it is obviously tough,” said Zach.

Their famous jumbo sandwiches come topped with coleslaw and homemade BBQ sauce, and combos come with classics like potato salad or baked beans.

The parkers say over the years their menu has changed a bit, with new items that are a hit.

“Definitely our pulled pork, and in recent years our BBQ nachos…*butted*..What we strive to do is to keep up with the change throughout time. The younger generation, that makes them love the nachos and the pulled chicken sandwiches,” said Taneal.

This hasn’t been the first time the restaurant has been recognized for their BBQ, and the Parkers said how humbled they are to have continued recognition over the years.

“It’s a dream come true,” said Zach.

The Parkers also shared with me that they invite the community to another location as they expand their BBQ business since recently purchasing Jack’s Creek BBQ located at 22-A and 100 Crossing.
