UPDATE: Former nurse practitioner Jeff Young sentenced to 20 years in prison

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A former West Tennessee nurse practitioner was finally sentenced today, March 18th, in Memphis.

Following the court sentencing today for Jeff Young, our crew on scene have an update for a story that has been ongoing for year.

Jeff Young, also known as the rock doc, entered into the U.S. District Court in Memphis on Monday at about 9:30 a.m.

He was waving to the people that were there in support of him saying that he loved them, smiling, and laughing with them.

Once the government started making their stance, he was physically disagreeing with them, shaking his head often at their statements, specifically with their stance of him prescribing medications in ways that were outside of the scope of legitimate medical practices.

Finally, before the sentencing, Jeff Young was given the chance to speak, and he did through many tears.

He said he tried to live a life that was worth the gifts that he had been given.

He also spoke a lot about alcoholism and how he suffered from that clouding his mind.

He claimed to be ashamed of the things he had done and said, and he spent time apologizing to his family and his former patients.

At about 1:30 p.m. Monday, the judge spoke a little bit and then gave Jeff Young his sentence.

He says that he has to sentence based on his actions and that this was an extremely serious case.

He went on to say that the record is complete with his overprescribing and that Jeff Young disregarded the law.

Ultimately, he sentenced Jeff Young to 240 months, which equals 20 years.

The government recommended a total of 40 years.
