Impact of Tennessee’s Certificate of Need law revealed

JACKSON, Tenn. — On Tuesday, March 19th, WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News Reporter, Ryan Hodges, shared the story of the Certificate of Need law in Tennessee.

Today, March 20th, we have new information in regards to this law.

This law will have an impact on hospitals in rural areas of West Tennessee.

Ron Shultis, Director of Policy and Research with Beacon Impact, shares that this could actually benefit patients and staff of these hospitals.

He says patients will have lower costs, more access to health care, and better outcomes.

This will also influence clinics in these rural areas to have quality over quantity in healthcare.

“These laws have cost Madison County alone over 68 million dollars in lost investment so, if these laws had not been on the books we already would have had more access to care than we currently do. And so by removing or performing these laws that’s what it leads to is investing in high investing care that makes everyone happy,” said Shultis.

Shultis also says that this can overall become beneficial for patients.
