Severe weather shelters to open Wednesday

JACKSON, Tenn. — The City of Jackson has confirmed the Carl Perkins Civic Center will open as a severe weather shelter on Wednesday evening.

This is due to severe weather forecasted for Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

The Civic Center will open at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, and visitors are asked to use the lower-level south entrance across from Mother Liberty C.M.E. Church. The Carl Perkins Civic Center is located at 400 South Highland Avenue in Jackson.

According to the Milan Police Department, the FEMA building will open at 4 p.m. and remain open until the storms have passed. The Hawkins-Whitby FEMA Building is located at 1101 Williamson Street in Milan.

The Atwood First Baptist Church basement and Cornerstone Church (formerly Methodist Church) basement will be open tonight for those seeking shelter from the storm.
