Residents demand answers for closing of a popular area in Humboldt

HUMBOLDT, Tenn. — We have a follow up to a story we brought to you last week, May 9, regarding the closing of a parking area in Humboldt, know as ‘The Crossing’.

Tonight, citizens of Humboldt met during a town hall meeting with the mayor and city alderman.

They wanted answers for the sudden closure that is affecting parking, vendors, and other business.

CSX Transportation corporation issued a ‘no trespassing zone’ for the lot leading into a well-known event in Humboldt, The West Tennessee Strawberry Festival.

At this time it is uncertain why the no trespassing sign was put up, prompting citizens to demand answers.

Vice Mayor McNeal talked about tonight’s meeting.

“The citizens today came forward and let them know ‘hey we’ve got business here and we need to address the issues, and what we need to do to going forward’. So, I think–uh, once we look into that, and get the answers, then we can move forward with it,” said McNeal.

McNeal urges concerned residents to reach out to the City of Humboldt or CSX transportation to help address the issue.
