County comes to city aid, rebuilds bridge
SOUTH PITTSBURG, Tenn. (AP) – The owner of a wood products company and Marion County highway workers have come to the aid of five South Pittsburg families whose bridge washed out.
The city is responsible for the span over a small stream, but municipal officials have been overwhelmed restoring flood damage in downtown South Pittsburg.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press (http://bit.ly/131mJP0 ) reported city administrator Sammy Burrows called Marion County highways superintendent Neil Webb and the county send a crew.
The bridge needed large wooden beams the county didn’t have, but Mike Cardin, who owns Cardin Wood Products in Kimball donated more than a dozen white oak timbers so the bridge could be rebuilt.
Webb said it was just one government helping another.
