Neighbors Stunned by Deadly Crash

HENDERSON COUNTY, Tenn- A deadly crash on Interstate 40 caused by a cow have residents stunned and investigators looking for the animal’s owner. On Tuesday night, the driver of a tractor trailer was traveling eastbound on I-40 near mile marker 109 in Henderson County, when he tried to avoid the cow. The rig overturned and ran off the median causing him to crash into another tractor trailer and a small SUV in the west bound lanes. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, two of the victims in the SUV, Debra Dell Whitelow and Trarell Robinson, where from nearby Ripley. The others were from out of state. “It just shows that you have to be aware of your surroundings and what’s going on,” said John Shelton, a truck driver who travels the area frequently. Residents said the incident will cause them to look extra careful for livestock on the interstate. “There’s wildlife everywhere,” said Brad Overman, who lives less than a mile from where the crash occurred. “And you can be at the wrong place at the wrong time.” State officials said they buried the cow under a tree near the scene of the crash; and drivers said it will serve as a reminder. “Anything can happen at anytime,” said Shelton. THP officials are asking anyone with information regarding the cow’s owner to call them or the Henderson County Sheriff’s Department at (731) 968-7777.
