Man Arrested, Accused of Phillips 66 Robbery

JACKSON, Tenn. – A Jackson man is in custody after he allegedly robbed two businesses. According to a news release, Steve Smith, 43, is charged with aggravated robbery in connection with the robbery of the Phillips 66 on Hollywood Drive, Sunday night. Police said that an officer, who saw the surveillance video of the robbery on WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News Tuesday night, recognized Smith and notified investigators. Smith is also accused of aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping after he allegedly threatened a clerk at Jackson Title Loans on Old Hickory Boulevard with a knife and demanded money. After taking money, Smith is accused of forcing the clerk into a rear office and locking her inside. She remained in the office until a co-worker let her out. Smith was arrested at his Jackson home and booked into the Madison County Jail around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. He will be arraigned via video link in Jackson City Court on Thursday.
