MILAN, Tenn.-E.W. James and Sons Supermarket has shocked customers in Milan, after abruptly shutting its doors. The manager at the Milan location said they simply have not had enough business to keep the doors open. Customers were greeted by a sign on the door when they showed up to shop. WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News spoke with several customers who said they were surprised and disappointed by the closure, especially that they were given no prior notice. Leaders with E.W. James said they could not afford to keep up their operation. “Since Walmart came to town, it’s been a tough go for us and with the competition here. So, we decided that we’d move our resources elsewhere in our company,” said Gary Byrd, a supervisor with E.W. James and Sons Supermarket. E.W. James and Sons is set to open a new location in Martin in the near future. The Milan store employed 40 workers.
