High school senior receives scholarship, internship through Amazon
PARIS, Tenn. — One local Tennessee student receives a unique scholarship opportunity.
Henry County High School Senior, Mallaki Boutwell, ends his year on a high note after he is selected for the Amazon “Future Engineer Scholarship” receiving $40,000, payable at $10,000 per year up to four years.
“It’s mainly for students who are really, not– don’t have that many scholarships. That really are under appreciated and so they found me here in Paris, Tennessee and they decided, you know, they looked over everything– looked over my little resume and essays and then they decided to give it to me,” said Boutwell.
Boutwell also receives a paid internship offer at Amazon Global and Mentorship, allowing him to gain valuable practical work experience from Amazon leaders. He is one of three Tennessee students selected out of 400 recipients of this scholarship here in the U.S.
“The fact that he is a product of the Henry County School System makes me proud and I’m glad he’s going on to represent in his field and in his path of choice,” said Leah Watkins, Director of Paris School.
Boutwell is continuing his education at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville and aims to pursue a career in computer science.
“I’ve always wanted to be a Henry County Patriot ever since I was little and growing up and now that I’m done being a Henry County Patriot it’s– it’s wild, I love it, it’s surreal,” said Boutwell.
His involvement with football, chess club, and peer mentoring have contributed to his success. He’s grateful for his family and his new journey. He also reminds us what’s important is to never give up.
“For all of my senior and juniors and sophomores you don’t need to know every answers right now everyday you don’t have to wake up and have a new answer to the day. You just gotta keep going,” said Boutwell.
Boutwell is soaring for a bright future and continues to lead by example.
