Crockett Mayor staff member arrested for theft

CROCKETT COUNTY, Tenn. — A staff member of a local mayor’s office has been arrested for theft.

62-year-old Michelle Spraggins was booked into the Crockett County jail around 4:30 p.m. Monday afternoon.

Spraggins was employed in Crockett County Mayor Gary Reasons’ office and has been on unpaid leave following an audit by the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office.

According to booking information, Spraggins is charged with theft of property between $60,000 and $250,000.

Booking info shows Spraggins had a bond set at $25,000, and an arraignment hearing scheduled for June 7 at 9 a.m. in Crockett County Circuit Court.

Records available online indicate she has since bonded out of custody.
