Standoff in Allenton Heights comes to an end
JACKSON, Tenn.—A shooting which turned into a standoff with one individual and the Jackson Police Department has ended.
According to JPD, they were alerted on their shot spotter around 10:40 Saturday morning regarding 4 rounds of shots fired in the area of Allenton Heights.
Almost immediately, police said that multiple calls came in related to shots fired in the same area.
Police also told us that they were on the scene within less than a minute.
Here’s what the scene looked like on Saturday.
It’s been a little over 2 hours since community residents have been outside with the Jackson Police Department, as well as the Jackson Police Department S.W.A.T. team, as they try to get an individual outside of a building.
What we have learned from the Jackson Police Department is that one individual was shot, taken to the hospital and released. Right now, the Jackson Police Department and JPD’s S.W.A.T. team are working with a megaphone, trying to get the individual to come outside of the home
According to a statement released from JPD this evening, they were alerted that an individual may have been shot inside an apartment at 236 Conger Street.
A perimeter was established for public safety around the apartment building and other resources were called to assist.
The S.W.A.T. team along with the hostage negotiation team were activated on the scene.
Entry to the residence was made by the S.W.A.T. team using available technology and a female was discovered, who appeared to be deceased, laying on the first floor of the residence near the stairs.
A decision was made to use chemical agents on the second floor of the apartment.
After deploying the chemical agents, an armed individual believed to be the suspect, came downstairs to the first floor.
The suspect eventually came to the door unarmed and surrendered to officers and was taken into custody without any incident.
JPD stated that this investigation is still ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available.
