Homework Hotline is a free tutoring service for K-12 students and guardians

JACKSON, Tenn.— Students across the state have been in school for almost a month now, meaning tests and homework is becoming their new normal.

Homework Hotline is providing assistance to students ranging from kindergarten to high school seniors in any subject for free.

“We are statewide, so we offer services to all students across the state including Jackson and West Tennessee. Regardless of what type of school setting they’re in so that includes homeschooled, that includes public schools, private schools, and of course charter schools,” Dr. Shanique Nixon, executive director of Homework Hotline, says.

Homework Hotline provides two modes of assistance, one for on-demand homework help and the other for tutoring.

“If you’re in the middle of an assignment or you have an assignment at school and knew when you got it, like “I don’t feel confident about that” then,  starting at 4 o’clock central standard time you can call in and one of our tutors will assist you,” she adds.

These tutors not only help students but parents as well.
They also offer help to those who may not speak English, their service offers 16 different languages.

“Our tutors are all licensed Tennessee state licensed educators. They’ve taken an additional assessment and of course they’ve all had background checks and that’s for the safety of our students.”

Each night the tutors are staffed to assist students in every subject.

If a homework assignment is confusing students can send it to their tutor.

“We do have a line that they can text their images to. Let’s say they’re doing a worksheet or they’re teacher gave them a paper and sends it home with them and they’re like I need help with this and I don’t know what this is. They can send a picture of that to us, to our teachers and our teachers can review it and work right alongside them with that worksheet with that paper,” Nixon explains.

Their overall goal is to provide assistance to those who need it.

“Traditionally we get to everybody, everybody gets a call back and we’re never gonna tell a student to stop calling us we’re here to serve our across Tennessee,” Nixon says.

They are currently looking for more tutors that have their Tennessee state educator licenses.
