Blountville deluged, local flooding heavy rain
BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Neighborhoods in northeastern Tennessee are drying out after torrential rain caused local street flooding and put storm water into some public buildings.
The Kingsport Times-News (http://bit.ly/1d5e1mE ) reported water seeped into the old Sullivan County Courthouse in Blountville on Tuesday afternoon as well as the boiler room at Blountville Middle School, where three feet of water rose.
County schools maintenance supervisor Joe Davenport said students in a basement classroom at Blountville Elementary had to be moved after water began seeping in.
The National Weather Service recorded just under an inch of rain at the Tri-Cities Airport, but much more fell locally. Claude Smith, who is the county maintenance supervisor estimates four to five inches of rain fell in under four hours.
Only scattered showers were predicted in the area Wednesday.
