Sidelined effort to establish museum back on track

CLINTON, Tenn. (AP) – There is a renewed effort to establish a coal miners’ museum in Lake City.

Initial plans had been dormant for years, but the Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/14xxk06 ) reported a scaled-down version could be placed in the former Bank of America building on Main Street.

The operations committee of the Anderson County Commission has signed off on the plan, advancing it for full commission consideration.

Lake City Mayor Timothy L. Sharpe stated in a letter to county officials that such a museum would bring in tourists and improve downtown development.

The museum would include relics from the era when coal mining was the area’s economic mainstay. Lake City was formerly called Coal Creek.
