Weekend Preview: Fun events happening in the Hub City

JACKSON, Tenn. — While weekends could be spent relaxing in your bed or watching TV, we found a few exciting events that could get you out of the house.

If you’re a writer or a book lover, you could start your Friday night off by enjoying Writers Night at the Tennessee Legends of Music Museum at the Carnegie.

This free event, hosted by the Ned McWherter Center, begins tonight at 6:30 p.m. and lasts until 10 p.m.

“We are so excited for this event. We started it last year as a way to give voice to our local authors who are published and we wanted to increase their visibility after having conversations with them,” said David McCall, executive director of The Ned.

Authors Patricia L. Hamilton and Joy Moore will be available for questions from the public.

Up next, Floral Cakes Bakery will have ‘Brush Notes’, a paint party that allows women to have fun while painting and singing karaoke.

“The ladies paint parties or Brush Notes, will always be the first Friday of the month at 7:30 going into 10 p.m. and once we transition into fall and winter months, we will go back to the original time which is 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.,” said Genevieve Dupree, Floral Cakes Baker owner.

The price of admission is $20.

The Hub City Fall Showdown Pickleball Tournament will be held from September 6-8 at Conger Park.

Complimentary snacks and water will be available.

Regular registration is $75. That cost includes all three events with the exception of open events.
