Cyclists from across the state compete in race
MADISON CO., Tenn.—Cyclists from all across Tennessee gather in the Hub City for a race.
Around 500 cyclists from middle and high schools all around Tennessee joined together at Pugh Bourne Park in Madison County today for a mountain bike race.
The race, hosted by the Tennessee Interscholastic Cycling League, is their second race of the fall.
The race began at 9 this morning along the Rockabilly Ridge trail at the park.
The intermediate trail was designed by local biker Matt Joiner in cooperation with Madison County Parks and Recreation.
Although the trail is one of the shortest loops for participants, it imposes challenges with its continued changes in elevation.
Mountain bikers made their way in laps around the 3 mile off road loop throughout the race which continued until 2 this afternoon.
And awards were presented to the cyclists at the conclusion of the race.
“Every state has this league. It’s run by NICA. That’s National Interscholastic Cycling Association and really it’s all about getting kids on bikes,” said Sloan Bishop, Head Coach, Grassland Middle School Team.
This is the 12th NICA racing season for the racers in Tennessee.
