One organization remembers Madison Co. WWII veterans
JACKSON, Tenn.—One local organization is remembering and honoring a group of Madison County WWII veterans.
The James Madison Chapter, Tennessee Society Sons of the American Revolution presented a special program today.
The event took place at VFW Post 6496 located at 285 Airways Blvd in Jackson.
The event featured special guest speaker Madison County Historian Ricky Long.
Long hosted a presentation entitled, “More Than Names on a Wall, the WWII Dead of Madison County, TN.”
The presentation included the stories of the 179 men from Madison Co. who lost their lives during WWII.
Long stressed the importance of recounting the stories of these men, continuing to keep their memories alive so that they do not just become a name on a wall at Liberty Park.
“There were at least 179 men from this county who died as a direct result from WWII and I was telling them the story of a few of those young men because they need to be remembered,” said Ricky Young, Madison County Historian.
Long visits different organizations to tell the veteran’s stories and says that if anyone has information or photos of these men to contact him on Facebook at
