Local student recounts competing in ‘Tennessee Kids Serve Summer Challenge’

JACKSON, Tenn. — A local student talks about her experience competing in the ‘Tennessee Kids Serve Summer Challenge’ earlier this year.

In fact, Vivian Sanders has competed several times in a program developed by Tennessee first lady Maria Lee.

Earlier this month, at the governor’s mansion, an annual carnival was held for the children who completed in the summer challenge.

This was the 6th time Sanders completed the challenge and the 4th time she has actually been to the governor’s mansion.

Sanders gives some helpful advice for other students wanting to help serve in their community.

“Just doing little things around your community like maybe you can walk down your street and pick up trash, of course with an adult. If you can’t get out and do those things, I would encourage stuff to do at school, like maybe you can just give someone a smile if they are having a bad day,” said Sanders.

Sanders has been invited to the mansion 7 times. She was honored for her dedication and service in the Tennessee Kids Serve Summer Challenge.
