McKellar-Sipes celebrates runway reconstruction, tower upgrades

JACKSON, Tenn. — McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport holds a big celebration Tuesday afternoon.

The ceremony was held for the newly reconstructed runway 2-20 and air traffic control facility upgrades. The event took place at the airport and featured the presence of airport officials, local, state, and national dignitaries, as well as the Jackson Chamber of Commerce Red Coats and other community leaders.

This ribbon cutting marks a major milestone in the comprehensive runway reconstruction project that began earlier this year. The newly rebuilt runways, lighting, and control tower upgrades are a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire McKellar-Sipes team and partners.

“I can’t wait to be out here in December, taking off from this runway in a new jet service and opening this place up to the rest of the world, so thank you so much for your work, thank you for all the designers and engineers and everybody, grant writers, and everybody who worked on this from beginning to end. We are literally standing on your shoulders,” said Madison County Mayor A.J. Massey.

This significant investment in the airport’s infrastructure promises to strengthen its position as a key transportation hub in the state.
