Recovery court graduation ceremony held in Milan
MILAN, Tenn. — Recovery court just gained two more graduates.
It was held Monday in the Milan Municipal Courtroom. The keynote speaker was Israel Melton with the 24th Judicial Recovery Court. Recovery court helps to to enhance public safety by providing treatment, supervision and structure to justice-involved individuals who have a substance use disorder. The goal is to return law-abiding citizens to the community and close the ‘revolving door’ of the criminal justice system.
Melton, who has been in recovery for 19 years now, shares the benefits of recovery court.
“It’s a wonderful program. It gives people the opportunity to slowly get back into the society and go to meetings and get involved in recovery in a way that other programs don’t allow. When they go to treatment they’re there the whole time, but in recovery court they’re actually in the real world and they’re getting the full benefit,” said Melton.
Melton says with recovery court you are held accountable and its like being a part of a family.
