Local judge honored after advocating for domestic violence survivors

JACKSON, Tenn. — In the past decade, Tennessee has ranked top 10 in women killed by their domestic partners. One local leader is helping to combat those statistics in our communities.

Judge Blake Anderson was awarded a certificate of appreciation Friday. Anderson has served as an honorable judge for Jackson for more than 25 years.

He was awarded this certificate because he advocates for survivors and victims of domestic violence by holding perpetrators accountable with intervention programs. These programs have helped change the way offenders think and behave.

Judge Anderson has held more than 5,000 offenders accountable by utilizing evidence based programs geared to change some of the behaviors that batterers use against survivors.

“We are just so thankful to have Judge Anderson and a team that we have collected together through our community coordinated response to address domestic and sexual violence in our communities. We wanted to applaud the effort and the work that they do to keep our communities safe,” said Stacy Miller, CEO for TN Correction Services West.

Madison County District Attorney and Domestic Violence Prosecutor John Dugan was also recognized Friday. Dugan orders the programs that help rehabilitate offenders.
