“Out of the Darkness Walk” held in Jackson
JACKSON, Tenn.—Community members from all across West TN join together to take strides in the prevention of suicide.
The West Tennessee Out of the Darkness Walk took place today at Jackson State Community College.
The walk began at 11 this morning and invites friends, family members and more to walk side by side in support of those lost from suicide.
And for those unable to walk at the event, there is also an opportunity to volunteer.
The Out of the Darkness Walk movement started back in 2004 and each year offers a unique way for those affected by suicide to join together and share their stories.
The walks take place in communities all across the nation and support the American foundation for Suicide Prevention’s education and support programs.
The foundation’s goal this year is to reduce the annual rate of suicide within the U.S. by 20 percent before 2025.
This year’s West TN Walk raised well over $3,000 towards the foundation’s overall goal.
