Miss Jackson, Miss Madison County pageant returns to Hub City

JACKSON, Tenn. — Young women were judged on their interviews, talent, fitness and evening gowns, all for an opportunity to win a sponsored college scholarship worth $1,000.

The Miss Jackson and Miss Madison County Volunteer Scholarship Pageant is a nonprofit organization.

Assistant Director Rachael Morford tells us they try to keep the girls centered around the S.E.R.V.E. Initiative.

“We encourage all of the girls to just be their authentic selves,” Morford said. “We don’t try to encourage them to be the perfect pageant girl or say all of the right things. We just want them to be themselves and have a great time and volunteer within their communities and support the S.E.R.V.E. initiative with the volunteer system. S.E.R.V.E. is scholarship, education, responsibility, volunteerism and empowerment.”

They have four different categories: Princess, Pre-Teen, Teen and Miss. Morford says this creates a huge pageant family for them.

“We have lots of girls involved, and getting them involved in their communities with their platforms, and just having a big family for all of us to love on and support,” said Morford. “Sometimes it’s hard ’cause they will go and compete in the other prelims, and they don’t know if they’re gonna win that one or the next one, so they’ve had a little time but each pageant is different. So it’s fun and something different every time.”

The event took place at the Carl Perkins Civic Center.
