Jackson Rotary Club honors veterans during weekly meeting

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson Rotary Club took the time to honor veterans in their weekly meeting at First United Methodist Church.

Colonel Ardis Porter shared his gratitude and the path that inspired him to serve.

“I had a father and a grandfather who both served. My grandfather served in World War II, my dad served in Vietnam so, these men kind of set the tone — set the pathway for me and gave me what I thought was a great example of what leadership is about, but also what service is about,” said Colonel Porter.

Colonel Porter shares that serving in the military is a selfless act and that Veterans Day should always be a day that these soldiers are honored.

“It’s our moment when we recognize and we think about those who make sacrifices, who are not here for us anymore. There are still family members dealing with those losses, it gives a moment where we pause and think about those who paid those ultimate prices for all of us and so we can never forget that and we should never forget that,” said Colonel Porter.

Mark Cancia, who was the moderator for this conversation, shares his thankfulness to these soldiers.

“Really express my gratitude for what you guys did and just honor the fact that you did make it home and recognize the fact there are folks that did not and may be in that tomb of unknown soldiers that’s in Arlington,” said Cancia.

Veterans day will be on Monday, November 11, honoring all soldiers living and those who have died.
