Local sorority chapter celebrates 102 years

JACKSON, Tenn.—One local sorority chapter celebrates a major milestone!

The Nu Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. marks its anniversary with a Founder’s Day celebration.

The event was held from 3 this afternoon until 5 this evening at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Jackson.

The organization takes this opportunity to reflect on not only sisterhood, but its legacy and impact on the community.

The celebration includes a message from special guest speaker, Rev. Dr. John Pasley along with a service honoring social workers.

“They wanted to create an organization for black women that would empower and enhance the lives of all women that were interested in education. Not only those women, but their communities and their families so that is the purpose of sigma gamma Rho sorority incorporated,” said Clara Johnson, President of Nu Sigma Alumnae Chapter.

This year marks 102 years for the organization.
