GCOA’s ‘Project Care’ to help deliver Thanksgiving meals to local senior citizens

BRADFORD, Tenn. — The Gibson County Office on Aging is making a special effort to ensure that older citizens are remembered by organizing ‘Project Care.’

It supplies homebound senior citizens with a turkey and dressing lunch. Community donations will supply the food.

The pies, rolls, cranberry sauce and a Thanksgiving card from Bradford Elementary students are packaged November 27. On Thanksgiving morning, volunteers will gather at the Bradford Fire Department to package the turkey, dressing and all the trimmings.

Elected officials assist with packaging the meals and volunteers will deliver the meals.

Motorcycle riders will follow to ensure the meals are delivered directly to the doors of our senior citizens.

“A lot of times they’re home alone on Thanksgiving morning and the reason being, some of them, their families are far off or they’re not able to cook that big meal and so we just want to make sure that we do make a difference in their lives that morning,” said Pam Dethloff, director for the Gibson County Office on Aging.

For those interested in helping, especially as motorcycle drivers, please reach out to the Gibson County Office on Aging at 731-742-2536.
