Baptist Carroll County hosts lunch and learn to discuss diabetes prevention, management

HUNTINGDON, Tenn. — Managing diabetes could be easier than you think.

Baptist Memorial Hospital-Carroll County hosted a free lunch and learn Friday. The event was designed to help attendees take control of their diabetes. Dr. Elly Riley, osteopathic family medicine physician, and Cindy Cole, registered nurse and diabetes educator, discussed diabetes prevention and self management. Plus, a healthy, delicious lunch was provided.

Dr. Riley shares that the healthy choices shared today apply to everyone not just those at risk of diabetes.

“Maintaining a healthy diet with plant based foods, lean proteins, high fiber and low sugars with minimally processed foods can help prevent things like heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity and even cancer,” said Dr. Riley.

Organizers shared that the best treatment for diabetes is education.
