Officials make progress on water main repairs for Benton County
UPDATE (11/29/24): Camden Water lifts boil advisory
BENTON COUNTY, Tenn. — More information has been released regarding the water situation in Benton County.
The superintendent of the City of Camden’s Water Department, John Beasley, has made multiple posts on their Facebook page regarding the updates on the current situation. The first post came at 3:15 a.m. Wednesday. It says the hazmat tanker has been recovered and removed from the accident scene, and the hazards have been mitigated by hazmat technicians.
CWD utility crews are now on scene beginning repairs to the damaged water main. He could confirm that there was no chemical spill from the tanker and there was not any contamination to the water system during the event, and he was going to give more updates as the repairs are completed.
He also advised in the post that the boil water notice was still in effect. Just a few hours later there was another announcement saying they would distribute more bottled water on those pallets, just as they did Tuesday morning in the same location.
Finally, Beasley gave another update just before 8 a.m. Wednesday saying that the CWD utility crews have completed repairs to the damaged water main on Highway 70 east in just under 5 hours. They can now begin pumping water to the treatment plant and treated water into the distribution system and slowly begin to pressurize the water system. He went on to say that it was going to take several hours for water tank volumes to reach levels to provide adequate water pressure.
