Jackson councilman, church partner to bring Thanksgiving meals to community
JACKSON, Tenn. — Thanksgiving meals were prepared and giving to many people throughout Jackson.
Jackson City Councilman Johnny Dodd and the Mount Moriah Baptist Church prepared many meals for people in the community Thursday morning. We were able to catch up with Councilman Dodd to learn the reasoning for this special event.
“We’re giving back this morning. It is something that we’ve been doing for probably over 20 years. God has blessed us to be able to, every Thanksgiving, just kind of give back to the community. We feed over 300 people. We do a lot of delivery and an in house dinner to fellowship,” said Councilman Dodd.
It takes a lot of work to prepare that many meals and deliver them. Many people were involved with this.
“We have our church members, major sponsors that help. I would like to thank them for always helping us and making sure this happens, my pastor, Pastor Benton. We’ve got a lot of high school students that come out. Then my mom and a couple of her friends. That’s really the people that we need to be thanking,” said Councilman Dodd.
Thanksgiving day is special to so many people. However, not everyone is able to get out and be with family or friends. That is why Councilman Dodd says this event is special.
“I think it gives us an opportunity to go knock on doors and say ‘Happy Thanksgiving’ because, a lot of these people will not have the opportunity to see anybody on Thanksgiving day, or even get a meal. But just to fellowship and say good morning to somebody or happy Thanksgiving, it means so much to a lot of people,” said Councilman Dodd.
Councilman Dodd says that making people feel happy and cared for is always the main goal.
Dodd says that times like these are a great opportunity for the community to come together.
