2024 Wreaths Across America Day honored
WILDERSVILLE, Tenn.—Over 600 veterans were recognized at an annual wreath laying service.
Wreaths Across America Day was honored at the Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery at Parkers Crossroads in Wildersville.
The service began at noon with a short ceremony in the chapel, followed by volunteers, individuals, and others laying more than 670 wreaths upon veterans graves.
This event was held as part of the national campaign which recognizes veterans each year across all 50 states.
The wreaths placed are sponsored by various individuals, businesses or organizations. Each one is made from fir branches and adorned with a large red bow.
The national event serves to encourage the public to recognize and honor veterans from the area and the sacrifices they made.
“At the end of our ceremony and taps are played, then our families will go out and put the wreath on their family members grave and then any others that volunteer may take a wreath and lay it on a grave,” said Anita Darnell, Coordinator for Wreaths Across America.
The annual event is free and open to the public. This year’s campaign motto is ‘Live With Purpose.’
