Salvation Army of Jackson seeks help giving gifts to ‘forgotten angels’

JACKSON, Tenn. — One local nonprofit needs your help this holiday season. The Salvation Army of Jackson is asking for the communities help to gift their ‘forgotten angels.’

“Some people have taken angels off the tree and most of those gifts have came back, but there are so many forgotten angels — the angels that never came off the tree. And so right now we have about 300 that gifts did not come back,” said Major John Edmonds, corps officer for the Salvation Army of Jackson.

These are the wish lists that were left on the angel trees.

This program has been around since the 70s.

“Its a ministry that the Salvation has done to provide a little bit of Christmas for children that wouldn’t have a Christmas otherwise. It’s only possible through our neighbors in the community they make it possible,” said Edmonds.

Currently they are in need of toys for children ages infant to 15.

“So what they can do is go to a store, a retail store here in town, buy gifts for children and bring them right to us. Right now, we’re located at the old Sears building at Old Hickory Mall,” said Edmonds.

Thursday is the last day that you can help to make these children’s Christmas possible.

“Tomorrow, Thursday, we will have our distribution for our angel tree. So cars will line up, they’ll give us their name and their ID number, and we’ll come give them their gifts,” said Edmonds.

Along with that, on December 19 these families will also be provided Christmas meals to prepare.

The Salvation Army wants to thank those that have gave and those that plan to.

“Well I just want to thank the community. We also have our bell ringing going on out there and people are just giving, and we thank you for that. They’ve provided a lot of gifts. It’s just harder this year — it seems like — but we thank them,” said Edmonds.
