Former High School Coach Sentenced for Multiple Sex Crimes

JACKSON, Tenn. — A former high school coach was sentenced to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple sex acts against minors. Anthony Anderson, 26, was sentenced to eight years in prison after being charged with statutory rape by an authority figure, solicitation of sexual exploitation of a minor, three counts of exploitation of a minor by electronic means and four counts of solicitation of a minor. Anderson was a part-time assistant football coach at Jackson Central-Merry High School. Jackson police began the investigation on April 2 after Anderson initiated contact with an online profile of what he believed was a 15-year-old girl. He asked the girl, which was actually a police investigator, for nude photos and to meet him for sex. Anderson was arrested two days after he made contact with the profile. He also had sexual contact with a 17-year-old that attended Jackson Central-Merry High School. Anderson and the girl met online on a social networking site. They later exchanged sexually explicit photographs and Anderson visited the girl’s home where they had sexual contact in March. Investigators learned about the relationship from the girl’s mother, who called the police after finding out. Anderson was aware of the girl’s age before any sexual contact occurred. Upon release from prison, he will have to register as a sex offender. He is currently awaiting a transfer to Tennessee Department of Correction.
