Tennessee Dept. of Transportation takes action ahead of heavy snow
JACKSON, Tenn. — The Tennessee Department of Transportation is in full gear! Wednesday, crews started pre-treating highways, interstates and state routes in preparation for the winter storm that is set to move across the state Friday.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation has trucks ready to roll ahead of the winter storm that is expected to move into West Tennessee in the early hours Friday morning. Main highways, interstates and state routes have already been pre-treated, now plows are hooked up and ready to push any winter precipitation off of the roads.
“Our interstates are our priority. Then we step down to the major US routes; US-45 US-412,” said Nichole Lawrence, West Tennessee regional communications officer for TDOT.
TDOT strongly encourages drivers to prepare to stay off the roads Friday for their own safety and the safety of their workers. And to give crews the room they need to clear the roads.
“We know there’s those folks that have to travel and have to be out in this. Plan accordingly, plan ahead. Give yourself plenty of time,” said Lawrence.
Many businesses and schools have already announced closures due to the winter storm coming in. Some parts of West Tennessee could see several inches of snow.
TDOT says their crews will be out until their routes are cleared for a safe commute. For current road conditions you can dial 5-1-1 or check out TDOT’s Smartway Map.
