Tennessee Highway Patrol hosts recruitment event in Hardin County

SAVANNAH, Tenn. — If you’ve ever been interested in serving, securing and protecting the people of Tennessee, then the Tennessee Highway Patrol wants you to become a part of their team.

“We’re very pleased with the outcome that came today. Whenever you have someone that’s thinking about joining law enforcement it’s a good thing for the state of Tennessee. We’re very pleased and looking forward to more joining,” said Jalyn Mozee, THP state trooper.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol hosted a recruitment event in Savannah for local residents to learn more on how to get involved.

“So training to be a state trooper here in Tennessee it’s going to be 17 weeks in Nashville, 11 if you are lateral. In that training, it’s going to be half in the classroom and the other half outside,” said Mozee.

These potential recruits sat through a brief slideshow, a video, and even were able to ask questions.

“If you have any questions go to thp.recruitment@tn.gov and email me or email your recruitment department with your questions. Also, how to apply — you go to tn.gov click ‘state trooper’ and you can apply to be a state trooper but, again, that deadline is April 7th,” said Mozee.

To apply the requirements are simple.

“You have to be 21 at the completion of graduation and be 20 to apply, have to have a valid drivers license, no DUI or criminal felony, or convictions. Also have a willing heart and the mindset to serve,” said Mozee.

There’s even a training for those who want to remain civilians but still want to help.

“Right now, we’re looking to start our Citizen Academy throughout the state in different districts. Basically, that’s going to be allowing citizens to come in for 7 weeks and get trained,” said Mozee.

“If you’re willing to serve here, serve the citizens of Tennessee, please apply at thp.recruitment@tn.gov,” said Mozee.

As of now, leaders say they are unsure of their next recruitment event. However, you can visit their website for more information on recruitment.
