Hardin Co. Sheriff’s Dept. warns of phone scam

NEWS RELEASE FROM HARDIN CO. SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT

HARDIN CO., Tenn.— Law enforcement in Hardin County warn residents of current phone scam.

According to a news release from the Hardin County Sheriff’s Department, multiple complaints have been made involving a scam call, where the caller attempts to collect money.

The following is the social media post made by Hardin County Sheriff’s Department:

Today, March 8th, 2025, the Sheriff’s Department has received multiple complaints of a scam going around involving someone calling individuals and stating to them that they have a warrant for their arrest. The caller then asks them to pay a fine, a bond, or face being arrested. They will typically ask that the money be paid via prepaid debit cards or through a variety of cash exchange apps.

Scammers will use apps that allow them to create temporary, disposable phone numbers that are next to impossible for Law Enforcement to trace back to an individual person.

A reminder that the Hardin County Sheriff’s Department will NEVER request that you send, or give, them money for any reason. Even legitimate warrant’s, civil or criminal, are served in person and money will never be exchanged.

If something feels suspicious, or you have questions about the legitimacy of a telephone conversation, you can always call the Sheriff’s Department at (731) 925-3377 or Dispatch at (731) 925-9007.

Ask to speak with a deputy by public service or have a deputy dispatched to your location. You can also come directly to the Sheriff’s Department and ask to speak a deputy.
