Talmadge Brown

Talmadge Brown, 80, of Hornbeak, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his home at 2:37 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. He will be deeply missed by his family and the many friends whose lives he touched.

Born November 16, 1944, in Dyersburg, Tennessee, Talmadge was the son of the late T.H. and Ruth (Gurley) Brown. He married the love of his life, Sherry (Lee) Brown, on November 6, 1987, a union that blessed him with 37 years of happiness. A dedicated and respected member of his community, Talmadge enjoyed a long and fulfilling career in banking, serving at the former Bank of Obion County, the former Bank of Troy, and First Citizens National Bank.

Beyond his professional life, Talmadge’s passions were simple and deeply felt. He found joy in the outdoors, spending countless hours hunting, fishing, riding horses and breaking horses. Above all, he cherished time spent with family and friends, team roping and trail riding embracing the beauty of nature and the warmth of companionship. He attended Hornbeak Baptist Church.

Talmadge is survived by his beloved wife, Sherry Lee Brown; two sons, Brik Brown of Ridgely and Bracken Brown of RoEllen; two cherished goddaughters, Carly Whipple Chandler of Fulton, Kentucky, and Katey Hastings of Obion; two great-godsons, Wyatt Chandler of Fulton, Kentucky, and Layne Stover of Obion; one great-goddaughter, Kennedy Hastings of Obion; his sister, Betty Lowery of Munford; his mother-in-law, Lurlie Lee of Union City; brothers-in-laws, Steve Lee and wife Allyson of Union City and Shane Lee and wife Erin of Bells; nieces and nephew, Mindy Chappell and husband Matt and Courtney Moran and husband Chucky all of Union City, Macey Johnson and husband Brent of Troy, Livvy Lee of Bells, Cindy Lowery and Brian Lowery and wife Paula all of Munford; and several special great nieces and great nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, James, Clarence, and Herbert Brown; and his father-in-law, Charlie Lee.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday at the chapel of Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home, with Brother Eric Burress officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Steve Fussell, Shane Lee, Layne Stover, Bryan Hastings, Landon Cranford, Colton Johnson, and Peyton Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Albright, David Cunningham, Steve Lee, Paul Albright, Charlie Ozment, and Kevin Whipple.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hometown Walk of Hope, 902 Perkins Street, Union City, Tennessee 38261, or an account will be established at First Citizens National Bank to sponsor events for children participating in rodeo events. Talmadge’s memory will live on in the hearts of those he loved, and his legacy of kindness and generosity will continue to inspire.
