Humboldt police officers visit local boy recovering from surgery
FROM THE HUMBOLDT POLICE DEPARTMENT:
Meet Joseph:
Shared in his mom’s own words: Joseph is 8 years old, full of heart, and has autism along with some medical challenges. He first met Humboldt PD during a tough time in his life and instantly fell in love with the police force—calling them his other family. His favorite “reward” isn’t the arcade or park, but visiting the police or fire station. Most Halloweens he is dressed as an officer and this last year he was promoted to swat and made sure y’all saw his awesome pictures during the community cookout, even joking that he is now higher in rank!
Despite being nonverbal for many years, Joseph has worked so hard to overcome obstacles and now dreams of one day joining Humboldt PD himself. His mom says he never meets a stranger and is always ready to help, even working on starting a charity for the homeless.

Today Sgt. Stewart (not pictured), Officer Yarbrough (right), and Officer Swift (left) went above and beyond—visiting Joseph at home after a tough surgery, bringing him gifts, and spending time just making him feel seen and included. That simple act brought light to his recovery and made him feel like part of the squad.
From all of us at Humboldt PD—we’re proud to have a hero like Joseph in our community!
