Teen Charged with Attempted Murder
A high school baseball game between Dyersburg and Crockett County turns violent just as students were beginning to leave. After barely losing the game, a group of Crockett County students allegedly began taunting a Dyersburg senior as he was driving away in his car. Witnesses say Christopher Purvis. 18, then accelerated towards the group, ran over one boy, and fled the scene. The victim was air lifted to The Med in Memphis and remains in critical condition. Crockett County school leaders say they are concerned for the victim and for the number of students who witnesses the incident. “I don’t know whether this will make that worse or more intense, or whether it will wake some people up to things that are most important in life and it’s not a ball game,” said Director of Crockett County Schools Eddie Whitby. Purvis remains in Dyer County jail in lieu of $50,000 bond. He is charged with attempted first degree murder and leaving the scene of an accident.
