Gibson EMC: Some Outages to Last Overnight

About 5,000 Gibson Electric Membership Corporation customer-owners – 1,600 in Crockett County and 3,400 in Gibson County – are still without power. Dan Rodamaker, Gibson EMC President and CEO, says that although Gibson EMC‘s crews have worked diligently since the outages began at 11‘oclock last night, they will not be able to complete service restoration today. “We are committed to restoring all of our customers‘ service as quickly as possible; but out of concern for our employees‘ safety, we will call our crews in from the field to our offices at dark tonight so they can prepare for tomorrow morning and get some much needed rest,” Rodamaker said. “They will be back out in the field at daylight tomorrow to continue their restoration efforts.” “It is difficult for us to stop working for any length of time when we know that our customers are without power, but mental and physical fatigue make it unsafe for our employees to continue,” he said. “Of course, we also are concerned for our customers‘ safety. For this reason, we encourage those who are without power, and particularly those who have a medical necessity for electric service, to seek shelter overnight elsewhere.” “We are grateful for the hard work and long hours our employees and the employees of our neighboring utilities are putting in,” Rodamaker said. “We have had help today from Pickwick Electric Cooperative, Fayetteville Public Utilities, Hickman-Fulton Co. Rural Electric Cooperative Corp. and Standard Electric. They have helped us make good progress and have generously offered to help us tomorrow.” “Our customers have been very supportive too,” Rodamaker said. “We sincerely appreciate their patience and understanding.”
