Affected by April’s storms? Deadline to apply for FEMA assistance is near
JACKSON, Tenn. — Residents of Obion, Hardeman and McNairy counties listen up!
The deadline to apply for FEMA aid from damages caused by the severe weather outbreak in early April is approaching quickly. The application deadline is Tuesday, August 19, just a short 5 days away.
FEMA spokesperson Trey Paul tells us more about the application process and the several ways you can apply for aid.
“If you want to connect with someone face-to-face please stop in the obion county library. That’s where our disaster recovery center is located, but if you can’t do that, probably the best way to connect with us is to go to disasterassistance.gov. You can also give us a call at 1-800-621-3362 or you can download the fema app,” said Paul.
Also, the Obion County library is located at 12-21 East Reelfoot Avenue in Union City.
There is a second recovery center in Hardeman County at the safe haven storm shelter located at 530 Madison Avenue West in Grand Junction.
Whether your losses were insured or not, FEMA still has the means to help you.
“We want anyone who was impacted by the storm in April, whether they have insurance or don’t have insurance, to reach out to us and let us know if we can help. Typically, insurance does the heavy lifting, but a lot of times what insurance doesn’t cover FEMA can certainly help you out with in some cases,” said Paul.
FEMA can assist with home repairs, rental assistance and moving expenses just to name a few.
