Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett Protecting the Vote in Tennessee: Uses Enhanced SAVE Program to Identify Ineligible Voters
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett today announced that his office has referred the names of 42 individuals identified as potential non-U.S. Citizens who voted to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for further review.

These names were identified using the federal Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) program, which has recently been enhanced to provide states with more accurate and timely data for verifying citizenship status. The referrals came after Tennessee compared 4 million records through the SAVE program.
“I am thankful that the federal government has offered this enhanced service,” said Secretary Hargett. “By working with our federal partners and using the enhanced SAVE program, we are taking proactive steps to ensure the integrity of Tennessee’s voter rolls.”
In a letter, President Trump commended Secretary Hargett’s efforts in keeping ineligible individuals off Tennessee’s voter rolls.
“Tennessee is proud to be ranked number one in the nation for election integrity for four consecutive years,” Tennessee Coordinator of Elections Mark Goins added. “We will continue to safeguard the process so that every eligible vote counts and only eligible votes are cast.”
The Secretary of State’s office has transmitted the names to the FBI for investigation and possible enforcement action. Voter fraud is a felony with serious consequences.
