Military families face food insecurity amid ongoing government shutdown

50,000 military families are seeking grocery assistance amid the government shutdown.
Before the government shutdown, one in four active-duty military families experienced difficulties putting food on their table.

The ongoing government shutdown has exacerbated this issue as food banks and relief organizations have reported exponential increases in traffic over the past 24 days.
While many service members received their October 15 paychecks, the next pay period on November 1 remains questionable, and the ripple effects of delayed deposits, frozen moves, and rising costs are hitting home.
“The need is significant. We really can’t do it alone, and so we’re counting on people to join us in this effort and to get involved,” said Shannon Razsadin, CEO of Military Family Advisory Network (MFAN).
MFAN, along with several corporate partners, has sent boxes to 4,000 families in all 50 states. However, there is an urgent need to support military families during this unprecedented time.
