Safe Task Force Progress in Memphis

MEMPHIS,  Tenn. —  U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi, along with local, state and federal leaders were all in attendance for Monday’s news conference held in Memphis.

The Memphis Task Force went into operation on September 29, 2025, and are reporting major progress fighting criminal activity throughout the city. Including recovering 115 missing children, making more than 3,000 arrest…Arresting more than 300 gang members and seizing over 500 firearms.

“We’re in a historic moment for Memphis Tennessee. For those of you that haven’t known how great this American city is they now are beginning to understand it. We we are not only a remarkable city, but a safe city. With what has already begun to happen in the state in just a couple of months the world can see what happens when partnership comes together,” said Governor Bill Lee.

The federal government begin taking an interest in Memphis in the spring with ‘Operation Viper‘ …Sparking a beginning of increased arrest and a decrease in crime in the Bluff City.

“Murder is down 48 percent in just 46 days, sexual assault down 39 percent, robbery down 51 percent…overall serious crime down 45 percent here in Memphis. We are reversing the trend,” said U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi.

Memphis Mayor Paul Young posted significant numbers on social media early Monday showing fewer arrest, and crime they’ve received as a result of the efforts that have been made.

“We are announcing a new HUD crime hotline to allow the resident of public housing to call the HUD office of the Inspector General the (O.I.G.), to report criminal, illegal aliens, sex offenders, human traffickers, and those guilty of gang activity, drug distribution and fraud,” said U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Scott Turner.

According to Memphis Police Department Facebook post by Memphis Police Chief C.J. Davis, the focus has been to address violent crime and dangerous offenders with city-wide crime with strategic policing, technology, and strong partnerships.

Many residents agree the task force initiative has been effective.
