Myrtle Thorpe Laster
Mrs. Myrtle Thorpe Laster, 94, of the #7 community died Tuesday, December 2, 2025. She was born January 19, 1931 in the Shawtown community, the daughter of the late William Leslie (Less) and Effie Myrtle Cranford Thorpe.
Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday at Berea Cemetery. Lee Moses will officiate.
There will be no visitation and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the service.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Carpenter, Keith Davis, Glenn Mayse, Mark McCullough, Joe Pryer and Kevin Scillion.
She attended the Lone Oak School in the Shawtown community and Tiptonville High School. After graduating from the former Hornbeak High School in 1948, she attended the U.T. Martin College for 2 years.
She married Dorrence Lee Laster June 5, 1950. He died July 9, 1984.
She was also proceeded in death by her two sons, Daniel Lee Laster of Sharon and James Ronald Laster of Obion; her sister, Flora Christine Thorpe May of Westland, Michigan; her brother, William Ernest Thorpe of Newbern, Tennessee; one niece, Linda May Thorpe Woodland of Paducah, Kentucky; and two nephews, Dough Calhoun and Gary Calhoun.
She had worked at the Martin Manufacturing Co. and The H. L. J. factory in South Fulton, Tennessee. She had also worked as a sitter in homes for several years.
She is survived by three nieces and five nephews.
A life-long member of the Church of Christ, she had worshiped most of her life with the Berea congregation near Rives, Tennessee.
