Traffic stop and foot pursuit leads to fugitive apprehension
FRIENDSHIP, Tenn. – As a result of teamwork and quick thinking earlier tonight, the Crockett County Sheriff’s Office successfully apprehended a suspect following a traffic stop in Friendship, TN.
As one of our deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop near Dollar General, the driver exited the vehicle and ran from the deputy. Quick to respond, backup officers arrived at the scene, equipped with additional manpower, a drone, and our K-9 unit.
Our highly trained K-9, Wren, played a pivotal role in the operation, leading deputies directly to the suspect, who was found hiding in the backyard of a nearby residence. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Michael Shannon, was taken into custody without further incident. The CCSD drone also played an important role providing air support in case another foot pursuit ensued.
Shannon faces multiple charges in Crockett County, including driving on a suspended license, failure to obey a traffic control device, and evading arrest. Further investigation revealed that he was also wanted by the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office for several offenses, including failure to appear, domestic violence, burglary, vandalism, and non-support of a parent.
Sheriff Troy Klyce expressed gratitude for the swift response of his deputies, mutual aid from Alamo Police Dept. and THP, as well as the exceptional work of K-9 Wren. “This incident underscores the dedication of our officers and the invaluable assistance provided by our K-9 units and drone. A special thanks to K-9 Wren for successfully apprehending her second suspect in recent weeks,” said Sheriff Klyce.
