PRESS RELEASE:

Jackson Police Department Concludes Internal Investigation Related to Empire Theater Incident

[Jackson, TN] – The Jackson Police Department has concluded an internal investigation stemming from two citizen complaints received on December 9, 2025, regarding the Department’s response to an incident at the Empire 8 Theater.

Three Jackson Police Department officers responded to the incident. The Department has taken these concerns seriously and recognizes the sensitivity of the situation and the importance of maintaining public trust. Following a comprehensive internal review, the complaints involving two of the responding officers were determined to be invalid and unfounded. However, the investigation found that a third officer, Officer Emily Knuckles, was in violation of Department Policy related to personal conduct. The Department’s administration has addressed appropriate disciplinary action for Officer Knuckles and will also implement additional training to ensure adherence to departmental standards and expectations. Officials from the Jackson Police Department have met with the two citizens who filed the original complaints to review and discuss the findings of the investigation. In the interest of full transparency, the Department has also released the body-worn camera footage from all three responding officers. The Jackson Police Department remains committed to accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement in service to the community.

Statement from Chief Thom Corley:

“The Jackson Police Department holds its officers to the highest standards of professionalism, respect, and courtesy. When concerns are raised by our community, we have a responsibility to listen, investigate thoroughly, and take appropriate action. While we are proud of the dedicated service provided by our officers each day, we will not hesitate to address conduct that falls short of our values. Our commitment remains steadfast to serve the people of this community with integrity, fairness, and respect.”
