According to the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office, 60-year-old Sherry Darlene Lydon shot her husband and son Thursday morning then left the home.
Sheriff Jeff Box with the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office describes the scene and the victim’s injuries.
“We found one 60-year-old white male deceased from a single gunshot wound and also found a 24-year-old that had two gunshot wounds and he was transported to a regional trauma center,” said Sheriff Box.
According to the sheriff’s department, Lydon left the home after the shootings and intentionally collided head on with an 18-wheeler in an apparent attempt to commit suicide.
The sheriff says Lydon suffers from a medical condition and was experiencing night terrors, anxiety, and sleep disturbances.
He says they believe this was the cause of the incident however they are still trying to piece together events.
“We think that’s what caused this to happen. Currently there’s no indication of any illegal drugs or anything like that involved in this so very tragic situation,” said Sheriff Box.
It was later confirmed that Lydon died at a regional hospital from injuries sustained in the 18-wheeler crash.
According to the department, all the factors with the shooting and wreck are being considered and they are still investigating.
The sheriff’s department also says their thoughts and prayers are with the Lydon family and they ask for the community’s continued patience as they continue to investigate.
