Charles Edwin Gray
Charles Edwin Gray, a beloved member of the Shawtown community, passed away at the age of 78 on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. Born on August 3, 1947, in Obion County, Charles was the son of the late Luby and Ollie (Lee) Gray. He was a devoted husband to Becky (Rounsavall) Gray, whom he married on April 22, 1972, and together they shared 53 wonderful years.
Charles was a proud veteran, having served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a special forces dog handler. He continued his service in the Tennessee National Guard, retiring after 30 years. Charles retired with internal affairs with Northwest Correctional Complex in Tiptonville. Known for his patriotism, Charles was also a gifted storyteller, poet, and woodworker who never met a stranger. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

He is survived by his loving wife, Becky Gray of the Shawtown community; his daughters, Tracey Jones and husband Jason of Murfreesboro, and Erin Gray of Salt Lake City, Utah; his son, Chad Gray of Union City, and his grandsons, Jack Paul Jones and Charles Hudson “Charlie” Jones of Murfreesboro; his sisters Ginny Montgomery of Troy and Phyllis Jones of the Shawtown community; special friend he served in Vietnam with Kenny King of Champagne, Illinois; high school friends, Steve Miller of Jackson, Butch Taylor of Obion and the late Ted Kendall; along with several nieces and nephews.
Charles was preceded in death by his four sisters, Martha Davis, Ophelia Speed, Naomi Coley, and Janice Moore, and his five brothers, Henry, Doyal, Ralph, Wendell, and Jim Gray.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2025, in the chapel of Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home, with Gary Gray and Brother Tony Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of services at the funeral home. Charles will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many.
Pallbeaers will be Brad Davis, Lance Gray, Joey Montgomery, Richie Montgomery, Doug Montgomery and Russ Davis.
Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Griffin, Robert Hoffman and Johnny Williams.
