1 dead following overnight home invasion in Tipton County

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE TIPTON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE:

BRIGHTON, Tenn. — A family is left grieving after their home was broken into, leaving one man dead and a woman and child fearing for their lives after being held at gunpoint.

At approximately 11:30p.m. last night, deputies were dispatched to the 2500 block of John Hill Rd., in the Brighton area, in regards a home invasion involving multiple armed men. Deputies quickly responded and upon arrival found one male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Medical attention was rendered to the victim and he was transported to Baptist-Tipton Hospital where shortly afterword he succumbed to his wounds. The victim has been identified as Corey Webb (22) of Brighton, TN.

An immediate search of the area for the suspects was conducted on foot and by air via departmental drones but to no avail. Detectives were summoned to the scene and found multiple crime scenes stretching for hundreds of yards. Evidence was located in numerous locations as it was obvious the perpetrators fled the home on foot to an awaiting car. Evidence on scene suggested that the homeowner/victim was able to shoot and at least wound one of the perpetrators as well during the violent encounter.

Throughout the early morning hours, detectives began developing information that led to possible suspects. Surveillance was conducted at two residences in the Memphis area where the suspects were known to reside. At the conclusion of those efforts, two suspects were taken into custody and a search warrant was executed. The search warrant revealed a quantity of marijuana, cash and multiple guns.

The investigation, thus far, has led to the arrest of three individuals…two juveniles, ages 16 and 17, and one adult. One of the juveniles has received medical treatment for a gunshot wound and has since been released. Both juveniles are currently in custody at a juvenile detention center. The adult has been identified as Ashton Wayne Wolsefer (20) of 4361 Kerwin Drv. in Memphis. So far, all three suspects have been charged with 1st Degree Murder, Especially Aggravated Robbery and Especially Aggravated Burglary. Wolsefer is being held without bond and will appear before General Sessions Judge M.O. Eckel on 06 January 2026, at 9:00 a.m.

“It is gut wrenching to see a family suffering from such a violent and senseless crime,” said Sheriff Shannon Beasley. “We will now be the voice for Mr. Webb and his family as we work with our District Attorney’s Office to prosecute each of these young men for the heinous crimes they have committed. The actions of these cowards have left a family with no father, son or brother and we will do our best to make sure they pay for the crimes they have committed. I also want recognize and thank our deputies and our detectives on an outstanding job and for the work they have done. We had three of our suspects in custody within 12 hours of their violent attack. This hard work shows the commitment our men and women have to protect our communities and hunt down criminals who prey on our citizens. I also want to thank the U.S. Marshals – Two River Violent Fugitive Task Force for their assistance with this investigation. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Mr. Webb as they navigate through this difficult time. This investigation remains open and active. We will leave no stone unturned as we continue to seek for others who may have had involvement in this crime, may have been a witness to or who may have vital information.”
